RTNNV and Team Depot Transform Senior Couple's Home in Reno
A Reno senior couple can now move safely and comfortably around their home, thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers from Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada (RTNNV), The Home Depot Foundation, and Team Depot.

Volunteers from RTNNV and The Home Depot Foundation renovate the Gallimores’ home.
Meet the Gallimores
Patricia and Donald Gallimore, both retired and facing mobility challenges, had struggled to maintain their cherished home of 34 years.
“For me almost being 68, my husband's going to be 70 – with some of the different disabilities being able to manage,” Patricia shared.
Volunteer Efforts Make a Difference
Volunteers stepped up to help with a range of improvements, including:
- Yard clean-up
- Deck replacement
- Repairing a broken front door
- Addressing plumbing concerns
- Removing fire hazards
- Checking alarms and installing new security features
“We rebuilt the deck on the back of the home. It was not 100% safe, it was weak,” said David Slater, Team Depot captain for Home Depot.
Restoring Security and Independence
The upgrades have restored the Gallimores’ sense of security and independence.
“This is giving us our house back. We'll be able to go out in our front yard and enjoy our front yard. Go in our backyard again and sit out at the deck,” Patricia said.
Ongoing Need for Volunteers
RTNNV completes about 100 home renovations a year, focusing on seniors and veterans, but the need for volunteers is growing.
“Everybody needs help to some degree. The need here with our seniors and some of our more vulnerable populations is huge,” said Gregg Hamilton, RTNNV operations manager.
Inspired by the support, Patricia now plans to give back as a volunteer herself. To learn more or get involved, visit Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada’s website.
